  Comments: "It's a crime. Look it up." I take it Felix is referring to the site's name, which oddly enough, isn't in the dictionary – at least not in the voision I have – I think I get it. Anyway, I recently bumped into a cool experimental project by Felix (via Stung Eye). Apparently, he hands his photo subject a sticker with the words "I AM" printed on it with blank space to complete the thought before posing for the picture. A most amusing gallery. His main site with photos in 10 categories is today's pick though – from street art and friends to celebrations and strangers, some great shots (I miss Chicago). Nice interface too, though not a surprise 'cause Felix is also a Flash developer...

  Comments: Its just launched Premier Issue has over 30 tasty pages around the theme of Brainstorm. "Anything at all remotely related to the idea of the brainstorm. Or not." Photography, music, art, and even a celeb interview are included in the PDF magazine. The collective says its goal is "to deliver a compelling and unique experience with each new issue." • Fiodor Sumkin 3/29/06

  Comments: In his late teens, Fiodor moved from where he grew up in East Germany to Moscow and survived by selling his drawings on the street. He subsequently worked as a graphic designer there before moving to Milano in 2001 for other work, and then to Rome "to paint pictures again." By that time, he started to gain notoriety for his art and now lives in Paris with his girlfriend. He's thankful to her and other friends who have reached out to help him. "It is a destiny present to me that all those people have been there for me in the right moment, whenever I needed them." He apparently started the site just a few months ago and though all the posted pieces currently all fit on one page, the illustrations are phenomenal and most of them can also be viewed in a larger size. "Then they bulldozed everything down all the trees, poisoned the rabbits, built a golf course, and threw up thousands of units of tract housing."   Comments: For a cool musical/visual diversion, luigi&luigi present 2 series of video mixes – Mondovision and Drums Unlimited – view online or download for viewing on your computer (640x480) or iPod (320x240). I had a problem extracting the larger version of Drums Unlimited, though the error may have been due to something on my end.   Comments: The founders of the group have been involved in dance theatre since the mid-90s and created Teatr Usta Usta in 2000. I describe the site as "a glimpse" into their work – one would have to see them live onstage, I think, to really feel the experience, though the trilogy of online Flash works and various texts and visuals found in the Projects section do a pretty good job of conveying what the troupe and its performances are about. It's "not ordinary, everyday reality that is taken with a careless, restless glance, but one that is revealed only to the eyes of the keen observer." The content seemed a bit abstract and chaotic to me at first but a little exploration goes a long way...  [4efx]

  Description: an international photographic exhibit that inspires dialogue about the human condition, moves beyond stereotypes, and challenges people to recognize the unity within our diversity
  Comments: There's not much to see yet in terms of content, but if the site succeeds in reaching the hearts of photographers around the world, the coming exhibit, to be presented both offline and online sometime next year, is indeed something to look forward to.

  We are sending out a global call for photographic submissions that respond to the question: “What does it mean to be human?” This is an opportunity for photographers around the world to come together and visually connect a world that can at times seem divided. We hope you will join with us in creating a narrative that unites humanity.

It's from the Class of '07 at Hyper Island featuring information about the students, all seeking internships in the near future. I love the toystore motif and cool Flash interface, which also serves as an excellent gateway to the up and coming designers' own websites...

  Comments: What do you get when you mix "Germany's third largest energy company" known for turning "all sorts of rubbish into energy" in meatspace with the real rubbish of the web (i.e., Spam)? Why, a Spamrecycler, of course. I'm a firm believer that spam has no redeeming value, but they say: "Spam is bothersome. Or awesome, if turned into art." Hmmm. So I decided to participate by forwarding a spam email (after seeking out and reviewing the company's posted privacy policy). Though you don't have to participate to view cool demos of the recycler's artistic savvy, if you do forward them a spam message (at your own risk, of course), you get to play with the recycler's controls and get your very own unique piece of high-res 'art' in return. All rather amusing and the finished art makes a fine wallpaper, though I have to admit I'd be happier if I didn't have any Spam to send 'em in the first place...;~))  [Ventilate]

Ian sheds more light on the process he uses to produce artworks by showing 47 stages of one of his pieces – quite interesting. In addition to 5 themed galleries, there's also an assortment of random images done last year. "My work is about modern life, particularly television, world events, celebrities, and day-to-day living. It's about pornography and news reports from war zones instead of sex and death." Neuarmy calls it raw skills.

  Description: a visual exploration of words in the real world
  Comments: "I have no idea why I keep making work for myself like this.." said Webponce when he set out to create this "nice little corner of the internet" back in October. "I think it's to put off doing real work, but it keeps me off the streets to say the least." His real name is Matthew Knight and the idea behind the site is to "find some great shots of typography, signage, graffiti, number plates, tattoos, who knows?" There's words everywhere and the site recently hit the 500 images mark. Matthew says it all "should be visually stimulating and interesting" and envisions how the database of word pictures might be used in various applications.   Comments: Love. Glory. Beauty. I ran into the Happy Graffiti Blog in the publicboard at iBLOG, discovering that the happy graffiti friends are also the agbteam, a French crew of graffiti artists. Today's pick is the crew's homepage where you'll find dozens of original works of graffiti, plus a blackbook of illustrations done by various members of the team. Amazing stuff!

  Comments: This brand new magazine devoted to photographs makes it clear that it's not a "publication on photography." Unlike exhibitions "devoted to photographers from the past or to media stars" that don't typically attract everyday people, the webmag hopes to appeal to the general public (or masses). An amateur but happy* photographer who shoots primarily digital, Craig works as a full-time web developer in the UK – cool photos and a nice design too...;~))

  Comments: I saw the first issue in mid-January, I wondered how users might respond to its mode of delivery, a hefty, downloadable self-executing Flash file, viewed locally. There were over 250 pages in that issue, including over 100 artworks – A1 stuff! And I'm sure glad I downloaded it. Thanks to crossmind.net for mentioning the second issue – I've been meaning to watch for it. Anyway, the White issue, released in February, has over 340 pages of superb visual art and in-depth interviews – very well-produced in my opinion.

  Comments: It looks like a old-time photobooth but the move-me booth is equipped for video instead. It's periodically moved to different venues and intended to provide "a unique opportunity for anyone to experience being a performer working with some of the world's most exciting dance-makers and to have their work seen on the world wide web." The user selects a choreographer, receives a few pointers, and then records their own 2-minute dance video. "Make it a performance. Surprise, delight and intrigue us." The site is the place to view the dances and though there seems to be a big problem with the volume, which hopefully will be corrected soon (for now, you'll have to crank it up to hear it), the assortment of spontaneous performances is most amusing.   Comments: Two similar photos, one Joe's most recent and the other, taken about a month ago – both very cool shots thanks to the new camera, which Joe says was like "getting a guitar once owned by Clapton." The universe answered Joe's request for an upgrade. Other shots like Three in flight and Into the sun, feel to me as if the universe was answering my request for something a little different today.
